I pulled the subs and got a surprise. Four connections, which I already knew. However, four of the wires were solid green, and four were green with a black stripe. One thing is for sure, they were consistent LoL..

So this created a dilemma. I was now on my own with no diagram, with the subs out, ready to begin wiring. After inspecting the subs, I noticed that the blades were different sizes. Generally the wider blade is positive, the thinner, negative. So, I wired everything up and reinstalled the subs. I then moved on to the power, ground, and sub lines for the external amp and sub.

I wrapped up the install, put everything in its place and powered up the system. Ahhh… Literally music to my ears, a factory DSP system with solid 20 Hz - 200 Hz low end frequencies. I am not sure about other E53’s, but with mine, I do not need my key to turn the system on. And, my external amp does not require a remote wire. It activates when the DSP system is turned on, not the ACC. I am extremely happy with the results.

It got late for tuning, so I closed up shop. But for sure I will be at it asap. It’s pretty cool it fired up first time. You never know what will happen, when you start goofing around with BMW electrical systems. Even without tuning though, the sound was night and day!
