I had seen this thread on E46 fanatics.com forum, before I purchased the G.A.S. repair kit from Amazon: E46 Fanatics forum

I saw the X8R kit on Amazon, too, but it was for the smaller displacement engines. The X8R version for the 3.0i was available from their website in the UK, but wout cost about $90 with shipping (last year). Since the G.A.S. kit was available for under $70 with free shipping, I bought that kit from Amazon.

Another kit was much cheaper on Amazon, but it was just the same as the original, plastic flap with a metal pin. Not what I wanted. Even an Amazon customer review stated that the pin came loose very early on, after installation. I wasn't wanting that to happen, so I spent more, for a G.A.S. kit with the locking pin.
