About to do rear brakes but some issues remain

I've searched high and low for a definitive answer to the second question but cannot be 100% certain my plan is safe. But first, the question that's less of a critical risk:

1. Does the e-brake in the E70 (2011 35D in my case) work the pads or does it have brake shoes? From what I can tell it is the latter, which is no big deal, but if the former then I will need to manually release the actuator. I know I'll find out when I remove the wheel, just trying to be prepared.

2. The bigger question: Can I jack it up using the rear differential? Of course I will avoid the cover, and use jack stands immediately after, but this thread (see link, post #5 by PAX5) ) is the closest I've come to seeing an answer (which would be a Yes). But even so, on other threads I've seen that this picture from the TIS is actually for the F15. I've also heard the E70 and F15 are mechanically very similar but that does not mean identical.

So, can someone who has actually jacked the E70 using the diff confirm? I'd really appreciate a few words of reassurance!
