Could you post a picture of the circuit board and transponder of the aftermarket key for me to look at?
My first thought is that the transponder you used might not be a genuine PCF7935. The replica transponders don't really work from my experience.
Those transponders will work with the EWS systems in E53s. They just won't store the mileage when the car is turned off like the 10030A transponders in the diamond keys.
The valet keys still use the PCF7935.
If you want a for sure working key I would purchase a used diamond key and remove the circuit board. Desolder the old 10030A chip and solder a new one in and program it to your EWS module with the AK90. Then place the circuit board in your new cut aftermarket key.

Hi TC2, sorry for the lat reply but have been away at work & could not get a pic of the key in question. Would appreciate whatever advice you can impart here to help.
The key I "coded" & am having problems with is the type that has seperate chip that you glue into the key body, pic below of my actual key. Is this type of key usually compatible with the EWS found in 05 e53?
The other pic below of the PCB with integrated chip is the type of key that i am getting unknown key type error with my ak90, I cant remember if that is what comes up with a new blank "key" before coding, has been a while since i did the other key.
I suppose if not normal message this could just be a faulty unit maybe.
