Thanks for the reply guys. I ended up taking the air filter cover off and the MAF which was quite easy with clips which I have done before. I did go to a local auto shop but nothing there to suit. Mine is on a Bosch MAF and I see there is actually a special tool available for the Bosch MAF sensor screws.
This is all because my X5 has developed an engine warning light and thought it could be that. I did disconnect it with no change but ended up cleaning it anyway.
I think i may have a no 7 cylinder issue (oil, plug, coil or anything else) from diagnostic tool.
Off to my mechanic next week for this one.
