Drop the subframe a couple/few inches and lift the motor up a bit and you can get them out. Pulling the wheel well liner helps a lot too and isn’t cosmic either. You can replace the factory plastic rivets, or get the plastic push rivets you see used around the X5s if you don’t have a plastic rivet tool. Cheap on Amazon, and they come with an assortment of rivets. I’ve been using the push ones on my right rear liner for a year and they are holding fine.

Thanks! I do have a rivet tool and an engine support bar. May give this a go someday.
