AWR-fix: Oil drain plug with valve and hose

Votex - Made in USA - M12 X 1.5MM Stainless Steel Quick Valve Oil Drain Plug - Part Number SMQDP010-1

One of the greatest inventions ever!

Get the made in USA model above. I also bought one that wasn't and it works fine but the mechanism isn't nearly as nice and it's more restrictive.

Now when I change oil I put the drain tube directly into a gallon jug and twist the fitting to open the valve. Twist a bit to close the valve to change jugs since the capacity is a little bigger than a gallon. There's no going back that's for sure.

I didn't want to have to mess with the drain pan "two last times" (wife's F10 and my E70), so to exchange the old plug I hooked a vacuum up to the oil fill and it sucks air in the oil pan drain while swapping.

I used my Milwaukeee M18 vacuum and the nozzle fits perfectly into a roll of electrical tape to make a tight seal over the oil fill port!

Best to have a helper or Bungie the thing on. If enough air gets in the seal at the top won't hold the weight of the hose (ask me how I know).

Ok so I'll tell ya: the vacuum fell off but I was already putting in the new plug with valve and only spilled about 3oz of oil.

The design is such that the hose fitting makes a seal before the internal valve opens so you can turn the flow off and on with the hose attached.

I discovered the concept shortly before my birthday in January and wife got it for me. (Funny that she needed oil change before me so she ended up getting mine, I bought a different one for me).

Keep track of the hose! It would suuu uuck to have to get another valve just for a hose!

FYI, I think the vacuum trick would work for the oil level unit also but it's a much bigger hole I would expect to lose some oil.

The vacuum trick worked wonders when I changed my OFHG to avoid spilling oil down the front of the engine. (I should say *more* oil. That was the first time i used the trick.
