DME (ME9.2) swap?

I've got a 2010 x5 xDrive48i that after a large storm this weekend had some issues. It started and as I pulled away it started to have a rough idle, died and wouldn't restart (cranks but doesn't start).

After digging into the fault codes from ISTA+ I saw one that mentioned water in the junction box (along with some DME communication errors) so I started there. I pulled the cover off the e-box and sure enough that was quite a bit of standing water in there.

I pulled the DME (7600923 / 0261209478) and it had a decent water line on the bottom (sides when inserted in the e-box) so I popped it open. Looks like (at least on the top side) at least 3 SMD resistors are corroded/damaged and one of the ignition triode/transistor (30057 63215.1 0922/02) is damaged.

In the past I've had to read/write my FRM to get my lights/windows/turn signals/etc back after a dead battery. That is the extent of my coding/programing experience (so far).

So after some research I've arrived at the following steps and I hoping to confirm that a.) these are the steps I should be following and b.) any insight on the hardware/software I could/should use to accomplish this.

Steps
1. Read & save ISN
2. Acquire used DME
3. Install used DME
4. Write ISN to used DME
5. Start car
