E70 definitely has a similar, but different problem. The drain hose connects to a molded rubber fitting that is supposed to angle the water down. Apparently at the factory, they installed it and then rotated it to the down position - oblivious to the fact they just put a huge twist in the hose blocking any water from flowing. BMW even issued a service bulletin on it. Kind of a pain to fix the passenger side due to the washer fluid reservoir. I think the driver side is easier.

Note:
Use the repair kit (part number 82 69 9 408 866) to repair the water drain hose.
Note: The specified part number is not listed in the current Electronic Parts Catalogue for this vehicle. But the part can be ordered.
Fault cause:
The water drain hose was twistedly installed.
Carry out following check:
Remove affected footwell side trim panel from A-pillar, see repair instructions
A kink can be identified in the water drain hose in the area of the passage in the A-pillar at the bottom

Repair instructions:
Correctly fit the water drain hose in the A-pillar at the bottom and re-align.
Note: Due to the poor accessibility from inside you must turn the water drain hose from the outside and then re-align the end of the hose downwards.
Carry out the following repair:
Remove affected front side panel, see repair instructions
Turn the end of the water drain hose from the outside until the kink in the hose on the inside disappears
Note: Carry out a visual inspection to see whether the kink on the inside has disappeared. The repair is concluded once the kink on the inside has disappeared and the end of the water drain hose points downwards.

Roughen the bead of the hose with sandpaper and clean
Note: Do not roughen the cut surface.
Align and glue the end of the water drain hose with adhesive no. 116 (see document Auxiliary Materials and Operating Fluids) so that the hose opening points downwards

ugh. I was not looking forward to remove the a pillar cover and inspect. I suppose I have to do it at one point. Anytime I have rain, I park the x5 certain to angle water towards to rear drains. 95% of time, it works. Otherwise I do my best to park inside the garage to keep it dry.
