Are you (the OP) sure that you've got the right cable for your X5? You stated that INPA gives you "ignition and battery connected confirmation", but what else does it give you? You also state that you are using a D-can cable, but are you sure it's not a switchable K+D-can cable? According to this table I found online, your '06 X5 should be using a K-line cable, since D-line only came into use in 03/2007.


P.S. Get a Foxwell NT510 (or 520, or 530) series scantool, or a NT710, as a surefire way to get a quick look at your modules and their faults. A Foxwell BMW-specific diagnostic tool is good for a quick look (after buying the BMW-MINI-Rolls Royce software package, of course), and you'll always have the right interface for your OBD port that way.
