Had this happen on a work road trip last summer. Put the windows down to let the hot out and the driver glass stayed up. Aroo? WTF? Thought maybe it was stuck due to heat expansion. Opened and slammed the door closed and it fell right into the door. Oh shit!

I happened to have two new clips in my toolbox — I never road-trip the X5 without it — but I didn't need them. The two bolts that hold the clips to the regulator carrier were both loose and the carrier had gone down without the glass. Re-seated the glass, tightened the screws, and it's been fine since then.

Broke half the door panel clips and one of the mount pads came off. I still haven't fixed that, but it's not urgent. I want to replace the water barrier at some point because it was completely missing, obvs someone had been in there several times before me, but I have not had any water intrusion.
