You could try backing the bolts holding the lower to the upper columns out (at the u joint), checking the fit of the joint, where the two attach, etc., and then re-torquing the bolts. There are a few threads on the board about this working for others. My u joint was just worn out, so it didn’t work for me, but hopefully you’ll be luckier.
