well here we are nearly 3 years later and I've finally swapped out the mechatronic unit so I guess I've not done bad time wise since this fault first popped up

, I got to say what a different car it is to drive the gear change is soooo much smother its never been that nice since I brought it.
The swap itself was not that big a job either the oil seemed what I would expect for its age with minimal sludge in the sump no swarf on the magnetics but all the rubber seals had aged hardened , so I guess just doing a seal plus filter and oil change is a good thing to do to keep things fresh.
