Not sure if anyone else is facing the same case, but thought I'd post here in case anyone was looking for an inexpensive way to monitor live values.


I wanted to monitor transmission temperatures while towing, and information about most OBD2 dongles was pretty scarce when it came to specifics like that. I emailed a few vendors, and VEEPEAK was one who replied with a clear response, confirming that their VEEPEAK OBDCheck BLE (bluetooth) unit would do this, with the proper app.


After trying around a dozen apps, I can tell you that most Android apps won't read the transmission temperature, but both Bimmerlink (about $60) and Car Scanner ELM OBD2 (by OvZ in Google play, $6.50 for the unlocked pro version) can connect to the VEEPEAK to display real-time transmission temperature. I went with the Car Scanner pro license, and so now I can get a dashboard with the transmission temp, lock-up value, engine oil temp, and whatever else I want to add in. For a very low cost.

Bimmerlink looked great, but since I already have a Foxwell N510 Elite and an old laptop with the full suite of factory/dealer tools, spending another $60 seemed like overkill. This gets me the dongle and software for just over half the cost of the Bimmerlink software alone, so may be worth a look if you have other sensors you want to monitor.
