As it turned out, the axle wasn't the heavy-duty, 3.23 ratio described by the seller. It was only a standard 2.41 ratio. So it was new axle shafts, new carrier, new gears, new bearings and a seal kit, but now it's correct. Tech says it drives insane now, but with easier launches having the right gear set.
Last issue is getting the tachometer to work correctly with the MSD distributer. The original circuitry doesn't play well with the extended dwell signals electronic ignition systems produce. Maybe a week or two until it's home in the garage.
