No codes, andrew, except "Plausibility, idle speed (air leakage)" which comes back if I reset it. I took it out for a drive and stopped and started it several times. The "Plausibility, idle speed" came back several times (but no check engine light). On the return trip I gunned it in 1st and 2nd and after that the check engine light came on with an idle speed OBDII code, and the idle started to surge between 1,200 and 1,500 repeatedly. After stopping and starting the idle was stable but then after I blipped the throttle once it started surging again. It never died or even threatened to though.
I opened the hood and felt around for leaks but couldn't find anything. I pulled the vacuum hoses off the intake elbow (the one attached to the throttle body) but no change in the surging. I unplugged the MAF and the idle went to 700 rpm immediately and stayed there. No codes during this time of surging except when I unplugged the MAF.
About to lose my sh** with this car. I think I'll go try to put the old MAF on since that's easy and I never had any actual evidence that it failed.
