Actually the manual lock mechanism is not really that fragile just not lubricated properly. I replaced mine with a cheap Ebay kit years ago but was careful about lubing and installing it and it has lasted for easily more than 1000 cycles. I did do a mod so that I can still get in if it fails so maybe that's why it never gave trouble again!
