Have somebody change gears for you while you watch. There's play in the system and maybe ⅛ of a turn on the drive shaft is normal.

I never noticed the "tink" on mine until i had the gas access open but it was very evident from under the car.

You should only get one "tink" per gear reversal.

If you get repeating "tick tick tick" it's usually lose giubo bolts. (that sound is not so metallic no "ring" to it).
