You will not get all the old fluid out, a substantial amount of fluid will remain in the trans to be diluted with new fluid.
Wpoll, good catch on the trans thermostat, I'd completely forgotten about that. I've never heard of it causing problems but it certainly is very possible because of what it does!
I still recommend cleaning all the transmission electrical connections as suggested by other members in your original thread. I still think its an electrical glitch but the high trans temp is something that should be checked too.

cheers g300d, you are right about the electrical side too....many many moons ago way before hitting 118k miles at the end of the odd long journey I would get the message pop up...back then had a buggered starter motor causing havoc on battery on each crank so my battery was not up to par
Rain ingress not too sure of this as car was bone dry in heart of summer (and I dont wash it often there is ban currently as we are out of h20)
Oil or other wicking into connectors could be as you mentioned in the other post.
Let me see how it pans out with the engine oil and coolant changes.
Then I will decide
