I had a lot of oil on the front and driver side of the engine (nothing really on passenger/turbo side). Thought for sure the source was going to be the valve cover gasket, but found that two or three of the square intake gaskets were leaking quite a bit of oil down the driver's side of the block, and the vacuum pump was leaking oil down the front. Also had a lot of oil on the turbo boost hose (orange) that seamed to be blowing around the connection points. Could also have been from the CCV hose (replaced), I don't think it was open, but it fell apart in my hands taking it out, so it's possible it was leaking under pressure.
I took the vacuum pump apart and resealed it (couldn't find a gasket for the cover, so had to use gasket maker), and its been dry since. As far as I can tell (a couple of thousand miles later) the driver's side of the block is still dry as well..
