Mine is a 2002 as well. Here's the deal; Initially when new it was supposed to go "up" then "in", and indeed mine did do that. BMW had to replace a lot of telescoping motors, so they consequently "disabled" the "in" feature when the key is turned off. I know this because I have tried at least 3 times to get them to restore the "in" feature. Since the software has been changed, they can't restore it
. Yup, it's BS, because that was a feature that I really liked.
So in summary, it's only supposed to go "up" now.
