The bt/assist modules all come with voice input (for phone only) other than the very first release (-993) - so you dont need a seperate voice input system.
You may run into issues with the cradle and BT/Assist in the 04 due to what BMW called "wiring incompatibilities", so start by getting the basics working first (non-cradle) ... and then investigate the cradle later.
You'll need coding on the vehicle once the new BT/Assist TCU is fitted. It also quite an expensive part ($1200 ish).
Point BMW to the following SIB which details the upgrade. All will then be clear to them ...

SITUATION
On a vehicle equipped with BMW Assist™ (SA 639), a customer would like, at their own
expense, to upgrade to a Bluetooth® enabled handset.
On a vehicle equipped with phone preparation (SA 640), the customer would like, at their own
expense, to install a BMW Assist™ TCU with Bluetooth® technology.
A customer no longer wants to use a CPT9000 handset with their BMW Assist™ system.
