I don't know about where you are but around here all the ads for HD displays have a footnote in fine print stating that an HD source is required. It's the result of ignorant consumers buying an HD display, hooking it up to regular cable service or their VCR and then going back to the retailer to complain because the picture looked like crap compared to what they saw in the store.
