The car is based on both the DB9 and DBR9 race car. Marek Reichman, Aston's design director, said, 'While hinting at our future design direction, the DBS also has very clear links with our heritage - it is instantly recognisable as an Aston Martin.'

The next Vanquish is almost certain to be based on a DB9 and since the DBS sits between road and race, it is likely to provide strong styling cues for the high-performance model.
