Here was my installation in a 2001 X5 (9/00 build) with navigation. - http://www.xoutpost.com/articles.php?...ticle&artid=26

Here was King's installation in a 2002 X5 without navigation (at the time, he since retrofitted nav) - http://www.xoutpost.com/articles.php?...icle&artid=188

If you look at both articles above you will see a black DB25 connector that's in the area where the CD changer and nav computer are located. If you have that connector then there's a good chance that you have the pre-wiring for the phone system. It looks like this:

Also, if you look at Jan's BT retrofit information at http://www.janixworld.com/x5/phone/ then you will see a section that reads:
Cars built before 04/2002 and after 04/2001

* Most of these cars may not have option S640A installed from factory (although there are cars out which have option S640A with a build date prior to 04/2002). Double check with your dealer whether your car indeed does or doesn't have option S640A
* The kit you need to buy if your car does NOT have option S640A installed is
o # 84 64 0 153 227 at approximately 750 Euros (without snap-in holder,plus tax)
o Installation time is somewhere around 10 hrs
Hope this helps...
