Chances are you've cought a stone and its ripped the rubber boot. Once this happens its only a matter of time before the CV joint dries up and you get the infamous clicking noises which usually means a new driveshaft or CV joint.

Probably round $500 (just a guess-timate) to have BMW fix it unless your car is under warranty
