I attended graduate school at Sam Houston State U. in Huntsville, and worked in Houston, circa 1980-82 (before you were born, Adam
).
IIRC, my time there coincided with some sort of oil-related downturn in the economy. The locals talked about the "River Oaks" section of Houston with very high regard.
But what I remember most is the heat. And the humidity.
