BMW put the passkey in the 2004's in error. Read through this TSB and you'll see confirmation of this - http://www.bmwmotorsports.org/pdf/841304.pdf

You have really two options here. One is to replace your 2004 TCU with the 2005 TCU. This will give you both Assist and Bluetooth in your X5.

The other option is to replace your Assist module with the Bluetooth ULF. In doing so you will lose Assist but will gain Bluetooth. This particular ULF also has the built-in voice recognition module, whereas the 2005 combo Assist/BT module doesn't and if you want voice recognition then you need to buy the standalone VR module at an additional cost.
