No surprise to me that they would call off plans for such an attack. Al-Queda's claims their goal is to drive the US Military out of the Middle East. Given the political climate in the United States the last 5 years, Al-Queda would have to know that launching an attack inside the United States would only serve to fuel public support to keep troops in the Middle East even longer. Public support for the Iraq war would double overnight. Such an attack would completely backfire and would have the exact opposite effect than that which they are trying to achieve.
