Your problem sounds from your description to be different to the click that many new X5s experience when being driven slowly on full lock. That is normal I'm afraid, although not standard. It's caused by a bubble in the power steering hydraulics that arise from the fluid being forced through some baffles in the system. But this tends to happen from day one, not after 30k miles as in your case. Perhaps your dealer is confusing the two symptoms. He is correct in saying there is a customary noise from the X5's steering on lock, but maybe yours is a different problem and he should take a closer look before jumping to conclusions.
