i was on my way down to socal a few weeks ago and saw a car on fire on the shoulder on interstate 5. i was guessing that the police already knew about it but i dialed 911 on my cell phone anyway just in case everyone else who drove past it was thinking the same thing. btw, all the passengers seemed to have gotten out of the car safely and were walking away from the car.
the first time i dialed 911, it was busy. and it was still busy for the next 3 tries. then i finally got through to a recording that asked me to press 1 if this was an emergency. i pressed one and heard some lovely muzak and a repeating message that all operators were busy. i was on hold for maybe 2 minutes, then i finally got through to a live agent.
after that wonderful experience with 911, i am definitely renewing my bmw assist subscription when it's up next year. the last thing i need is a hard time getting through to the police if i'm the one hurt and need to press 1, listen to muzak, and hang out on hold while i bleed to death or something. no, thank you. bmw assist will be totally worth it for that one time (knock on wood) i'm unconscious or seriously hurt and they can work on getting through to the police for me.
