D-Link routers always die quicker, or people have connectivity problems from the start. I use the Linksys WRT54G router both in Bulgaria (right now) and back home in Canada.
The only reason why you may have heard that verison 5 is "bad" is because there are some people who upload third party firmware on that particular model, which gives the router functions that can only be found on $1000+ equipment.
Only version 4 could accept the firmware, and now that Linksys has moved on to version 5, these "modders" have dubbed it bad. There is nothing bad about it for you and me.
