The roads here in Calgary are pretty good compared to other Canadian cities so I'am really happy with the ride quality. I'am terrified of potholes though. Thats my main need for thicker tires.

Excellent - sounds like your on the right track (pun intended ). Perhaps you could touch base with a tire specialist such as TireRack for advice and to see what's available and you could sell your current rubber bands. I'm sure there are a few folks right here who could help you out as well... GL!
