My point was, we Yanks are aware that gas is very expensive
per gallon, by comparison in most Euro countries.
My other point is that the Continental US is a Big Country and
we don't have the train system most of Euro has; thus, we drive or, fly.
Unless I'm way off, your "avg. Euro" is not hopping into their car and
doing 1500 mile long weekends.
"5000 mile vacations"?! It's only a thou from Inverness to south Germany,
or 600 miles from Aberdeen to Paris. I suspect your normal Euro tourist is
not ripping off 5K Mile driving vacays.
My being retired has little to do with price of gas, trips, etc, imo.

5000 miles is from Inverness to Italy towing our caravan. via Belgium Germany Switzerland Austria Italy Holland and them home.
you right about the average weekend trip ours is usually about 400 miles as we travel between our home here at Inverness and our other home at Dunbalne.
Our average monthly fuel bill is £500 GBP. between out 3 cars and thats just everyday running work etc. trips home at weekend does not include holidays or anything extra.
