We call this the "SODDI" defense. It's very common and a well known acronym in the law enforcement/criminal law world, at least here in CA.

"SODDI" = Some Other Dude Did It.

Another good excuse if you're caught with dope in your pocket is to say "these aren't my pants". For real, it happens all the time.
