Funny, but I had exactly the same experience with McAfee... Norton was actually OK to me while I was using it for a short while (wouldn't dare to say it was good because it was still trying to make me install some crap I didn't need). But to be honest, I don't understand why people pay for either - there are many AV programs that are much superior to both, and some are actually free for home users.
