Whoa!!!!

there is a BIG difference between a PDA phone and a Blackberry. It's important that you know WHAT you want out of your portable before making a decision. Do you need a portable office that allows you to be away from it and do you communicate via email mostly, or do you need to be able to have multimedia such as video, camera etc.

I have just switched from a SE 910i to a BB 8700g. The BB is awesome with the BMW bluetooth and I get really crisp and clear sound. Callers were complaining about sound with SE and I had no end of dramas with it deciding to drop out the bluetooth link.

As I am out on the road, interstate or on site I was forever having to dial up and get into my email server. If I had a range/connection/password problem I was knackered. The PDA takes a lot of time to download and the web browser is slow in comparison. Go overseas and it REALLY gets expensive.

The BB however delivers my emails instantly, is VERY easy to type with and the browser is significantly quicker. However, that's ALL it does. You cannot take photos, you can only hot sync calendars/memos/contacts etc with outlook or after market programs such as goldmine/lotus notes and ACT, you cannot install ringtones as easily, and you have to post images on a website (the reason I have posted wallpapers on this forum for others) to download anything like it to the BB (can't use a USB cable). You also have to learn and memorise some keyboard shortcuts, and how to use the track wheel with your left hand as opposed to your right.

That said, I would not trade my BB for a PDA any day, and now that I have loaded a theme called Zen, it's a very easy device to use. I'd recomend a BB any day.

PS. The 8700 has a faster processor, bigger memory and better colour than most of the PDA's around,as the elimination of power sucking touch screens means it can easily handle the functions it needs to......
