He's just trying to say that preparing the paint/finish for wax is more importnant than the wax itself. Sure some waxes make the paint look a lot better, but imagine how they would look if you prep the surface the best you could.

The way you clayed the vehicle prior to waxing is considered prep. Imagine if you used clay, paintcleaner/polihs, and then put wax. Your results would be much better...Not that they look bad now...
