Been there, done that - TWICE! I know the uncertainty that you're going through. Of my two divorces, one was cut and dry (my ex-wife was an attorney and we fashioned our agreement without attorney costs), but the second was just plain nasty. There is absolutely no way childen can rationalize their parents in a battle; they will internalize their worst fears and feelings because these situations are unthinkable to them. Be with them - talk with them - every day if possible so they can hear your voice of assurance.
It may be a worn out cliche, but there is a cloud with a silver lining. So just know that it's there and it's heading your way.
