Hi Michelle. The answer to most of these questions can be found on the Apple support forums. Here's an example (below) directly from the Apple site regarding this question. After you finish the described process i believe the songs will appear in your itunes library as regular iTunes songs and will not say purchased. (That means you will have 2 copies of the same song in the iTunes library. 1 purchased and 1 mp3) Then you can burn another CD with the songs you want to share and give it to a friend. Remember when you burn the new disk (for the friend) you burn it as an audio disk.

Check your iTunes preferences>Burning. Are you trying to burn an audio CD, an MP3 disk, or a data disk?
If the answer is MP3 disk, it won't burn because purchased music is AAC, not MP3.
you would have to burn an audio disk first, then reimport it as MP3.
