Allegedly, the only "hits" that adversely affect your score are when you allow someone to run your credit report: for example when you apply for a Penney's card or a line of credit at the bank or a credit line increase on a current revolving account. If it were otherwise, we could all take a 200 point tumble in a day.
Opting out is still a VERY good thing for anyone's credit score in the end

If you need credit, you know where to get it IMHO.
