I don't know how things are done in Arlington, VA but i submitted a claim to my insurance company and the X was repaired. Not knowing your carrier it would be difficult to know what their conditions are but it seems to me your insurance would be looking out for your interest, seeing to it that your car is repaired to your liking and going after the other insurance company for the cost.
