Not always true, guys. When my wife's car was rear-ended last month, I called our insurance the next morning. I was told that since a) the other guy was at fault (and was ticketed to prove it), b) there were no injuries, and c) the other guy had insurance, NOT to report my claim to my own insurance. My own agent said to file with and deal with strictly the other guy's insurance. I called that insurance company at that point, and they agreed without argument. They let me pick the body shop of my choice, and are paying the full amount of the repair.
