This reminds me of incident that happened to me some years ago in a Mitsubishi 4WD.
I had just received the car back from service, which included a wheel balance. I was driving a few days later at highway speeds of 110 kph (68mph) when I heard a loud bang on the side of the car (a noise similar to someone kicking the side of the car).
After stopping I discovered what had happened. The wheel balance lead on the outside of the wheel had dislodged, firing into the road where it bounced back up with bits of broken road surface. The lead and bitumen debris then slammed into the side of the car on its way upward causing a surprising amount of damage in the plastic side mouldings of the car.

It was an incredible force.
Do you think a loose piece of lead may have been responsible for your tyre and body damage??
