Well, in the current BMW V8 car lineup for 5 & 7-series in the U.S, there is no more 4.4i engine. It is currently the 750i & 550i which is the 4.8iS engine. So the 4.8 liter engine will take the market position of the X5 4.4i just as "size 2 is the new size 0, and size 6 is the new size 14"
Most likely, the new X5 will be heavier and performance wise will take a hit unless you increase HP/Torque.
For next year 5-series, there will be a 535i (3.0 liter twin-turbo 300hp) & still the 550i. I believe there will also have a 528i (3.0 liter engine from the 525i with 15 more hp)
For 2007 3-series, there will be a 328i & 335i.
2007 X3 will get a 260hp version of the 3.0 liter engine based on the 2006 330i engine (3.0 liter engine with that special intake) Too bad no X3 with the 3.0 liter twin turbo....it would be ripping fast!
