Thanks for the reply, I am however, still confused. I've read several articles on your site (its absolutely great by the way) and perhaps it's the multitute of information that seems to conflict.

From what you indicated, my 3-04 X5 with NAV and Asist needs to have an 05 ULF installed to have the phone and the assist integrated. The paste in below is excerpted from SIB 84 01 03 dated March 05. This seems to contradict the need to change the TCU if you use the CPT9000 which I understand is the Motorola V60s for CDMA via Verizon. I dont have acess to the additional TSB's refered to so this may be moot, but if i could simply buy a Motorola V60s and the docking cradle and put them in the car using whats in it from the factory life would be good.

Please review this, hopfully your reply will cast my directon in stone....thanks

SITUATION
1. Starting with 3/05 production on all vehicles the CPT9000 phone can no longer be used. Please refer to SI B84 13 04 for information about Bluetooth handsets for these vehicles.

5. All E46 (3 series) from 9/03, E83 (X3) from 9/03, E85 (Z4) from 10/03, and E53 (X5) from 10/03, equipped with the Premium Package (ZPP) or BMW Assist (SA639), are now equipped with the BMW Assist TCU (Telematics Control Unit) with an embedded telephone transceiver for BMW Assist safety and service calls (automatic collision notification plus "SOS" manual emergency and roadside assistance requests). These calls will now be completed without requiring the telephone handset to be activated or connected.
An optional CPT9000 Portable phone may be installed in the vehicle. For information about the functionality of the Portable Phone refer to Service Technology Bulletin (SBT) 840703056 available on the TIS Website. Refer to the Portable Phone Coding Procedure later in this Service Information.

The retrofit coding procedure now works properly with the release of DIS CD38 or higher.
E53 (X5)
1. Select "3 ZCS/FA Coding".
2. Select "8 E53 Series".
3. Select "2 Retrofit".
4. Select "26 Telephone professional US"
5. Continue until coding is complete and new ZCS code is displayed on screen.
6. In some instances an error message "Not possible to retrofit TCU according to coding code" is displayed. If this is the case then manually change the ZCS code according to the attached chart.
7. 2005 MY vehicles have Bluetooth activated from the factory. In order to retrofit a CPT9000 (V60) telephone and deactivate Bluetooth the ZCS code must be changed according to the attached chart for 2005 Model Year.
8. Turn ignition off for 10 seconds.
9. Install handset and check functionality of the phone.


Paste in from a readers old post. This sound like what I'm trying to do, or would like to do. I’ve got NAV and ASSIST

“The regular Verizon V60s works perfectly as the integrated phone in my X5 (2004, No NAV, BMW Assist) The eject box and antenna was installed by the dealer and the car had to be programmed to recognize that it had a phone installed. But beyond that, I didn't need to buy the $600 CPT 9000, my run of the mill V60s works just fine, all the functions as described in the manual.

In fact if you buy a CPT 9000 at a dealer now, they give you a V60s rebadged (and maybe with different firmware - but I doubt it). It used to be a V60i.

I don't know if the phone will work with the Voice Recognition features - I haven't had that installed.”
