I was a little nervous that Progressive would have lousy customer service or would try to cheap-out on any claims. But I recently had my first claim with them, and they were very responsive and didn't try to nickel and dime me. They also let me choose my own repair facility.

I've also heard Amica is a great insurance company -- good prices, good customer service, etc. They sell direct via their own web site and will quote you a price online.
