I just installed a DLink camera for a client.

While it not small, it works very well and it has an outdoor enclosure. Works wirelessly and has a 10x optical zoom. For outdoor applications, the zoom is what you need! You can pan and scan to prescribed points with changes in zoom as well as upload pictures to a FTP site at various intervals.

A camera should also be a deterrant for security, make it noticable and you won't need to rely on the video capture. I have tried a lot of cameras, this one is worth the high pricetag.
