While it not small, it works very well and it has an outdoor enclosure. Works wirelessly and has a 10x optical zoom. For outdoor applications, the zoom is what you need! You can pan and scan to prescribed points with changes in zoom as well as upload pictures to a FTP site at various intervals.
For my parents' property, I tried the older version of the DLink WiFi Camera. What a POS. It didn't work, and I couldn't return it. Good idea, real bad execution. I wonder if they fixed all the bugs.

If you want something reliable IP based security camera, you cannot go wrong with AXIS products. Caution: They are very pricy.

If you need more than two cameras I'd go with DVR based Stand alone system. 4 channel system with cameras is under 1k.
