Same here...
This has happened twice! The first time, I sent my wife to pick up the X5 from my mechanic. When she got home, she explained to me that as she rolled up the window as she was leaving the shop, the window came off its track. So, I bought a window regulator ($100.00). I followed the procedure above and took the door trim pieces apart. For some reason, I decided to reconnect the control unit and play with the window...AND..the window went up just fine...although, there was a click sound as the window rolled up 80-90% up. So I decided to put everything back without replacing the new window regulator. The clicking sound still there. Now, I just don't roll windows down!
The second time, I picked up my car from my mechanic (CV Boot job) The window was down. As I drove away, I rolled up the window and GUESS WHAT!!!! You gussed it! the same thing. So, I took the trim pieces off and "re-aligned" the window again! It works fine.
After these two experiences, I am thinking that the mechanic slamms the door pretty hard while the window is rolled down half-ways....Could be?!
Hope this helps!
